Terengganu head coach Irfan Bakti, despite his team’s 3-0 hammering at the hands of Pahang in Kuantan on Saturday, is keeping his cool and believes things will change as the season progresses.

“It is still early in the season…only two matches have been played. There is a long way to go for all the teams,” said Irfan.

“Of course we did not expect to lose by a big margin but one man made a lot of difference to the outcome of the match in Kuantan. He is Dickson (Nwakaeme).

“Dickson destroyed us single-handedly. He scored one and set up another. Overall, Pahang is also a strong team and is capable of winning honors just like any others.”

Two wins out of two took Pahang to the top of the league standings with goal difference separating the top three teams – Pahang, Johor Darul Takzim and Melaka United all bunched on six points each.

Irfan, who guided Terengganu to the Malaysia Cup final last year, is confident that his team will be able to check the poor start to the season but faces another strong contender next.

Terengganu faces five-time Super League champions JDT next at home. The Turtles drew their first match at home and this was against PKNS FC which ended in a 1-1 stalemate. RIZAL ABDULLAH
