PETRONAS Sprinta Racing rider and his staff clock up crucial Moto2 laps as adaptation to new engine continues.

The Sepang International Circuit was the scene of a three-day private test that concluded today for local rider Khairul Idham Pawi and his technical crew, who have worked hard to develop their Kalex bike with the new engine.

The progress made over the last three days means the Malaysian rider can leave Sepang in high spirits, having gathered a lot of useful information to continue with development in the upcoming official test at Jerez next week.

Khairul Idham Pawi gradually gathered momentum over the three days at Sepang, where conditions were ideal for testing.

As well as completing an exhaustive development programme with his Moto2 machine, Pawi and his team were also able to improve his lap-by-lap consistency and reduced his best lap time with each passing day.

The next appointment for Khairul Idham Pawi and the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing team will be the official test at Jerez next week on the 20th, 21st and 22nd February.

Johan Stigefelt – PETRONAS Sepang Racing Team, Team Director

“Kharul Idham Pawi and his team have worked really well over the last three days. As we know this is a new bike with a new engine, very different to what we had previously in Moto2, so it was very useful to come to this test and learn about how it reacts, trying out lots of different things. The track conditions were good, especially in the morning when it was perfect. In fact, Pawi managed some fast and consistent times in the 2’06s. We knew he could go faster if he needed to but we preferred to take a cautious approach. I am very satisfied with the job the team has done and how they are working. It will be interesting to see what we can take from this test into the next one at Jerez.”

“I felt much more comfortable on the bike today. We have improved in a lot of areas, such as the electronics and the general configuration of the bike. This has helped us to constantly improve the lap time from the first day and also improve our rhythm, which is what I need. I am already looking forward to the next test at Jerez to continue working and I want to thank the team for this three-day test here at the Sepang International Circuit.”
