It was a 5-0 win for Thailand against Sri Lanka in a Group C match in the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Tong Yun Kai Cup at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wanchai, Hong Kong on Wednesday.
 
The Sri Lankans stretched the Thais to rubber games in the mixed doubles and men’s doubles but the vastly experienced Thais turned things around.
 
It was a second defeat for Sri Lanka after losing to Indonesia in their first match on Tuesday by a similar margin.
 
Indonesia and Thailand will meet on Thursday to decide the group champions. The top two teams from each group will make the knockout stage where a new draw will be made.
 
The experienced mixed doubles pair of Nipitphon Phuangphuapet-Savitree Amitrapai was taken the full distance by Sachin Dias-Thilini Pramodika Hendahewa in their 21-10, 18-21, 21-10 for Thailand’s first point.
 
Kantaphon Wangcharoen battled past Dinuka Karunaratna 21-16, 21-16 in the men’s singles for Thailand’s second point.
 
It was another rubber game for the Thais in the men’s doubles Tinn Isriyanet-Tanupat Viriyangkura who slogged for 55 minutes to prevail 22-20, 19-21, 21-13 against Sachin Dias-Buwaneka Goonethilleka.
 
It was an easy point for Thailand in the women’s singles with Nitchaon Jindapol cruising past Dilmi Dias 21-7, 21-3 before Jongkolphan Kititharakul-Rawinda Prajongjai tamed Thilini Pramodika Hendahewa-Kavidi Sirimannage 21-14, 21-11 in the women’s doubles. –Badminton Asia
