The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has parted ways with Telekom Malaysia (TM) Unifi – its title sponsors with immediate effect.

The “marriage” between the two was solemnized last February with the telecommunication giant coming in as the title sponsor of MFL and the Malaysia Cup.

It was worth RM480 million until 2025.

Cracks in the marriage appeared early this year before the MFL kicked off on February 1. TM failed to meet the RM60 million annual sponsorship for the new season.

MFL chairman Major General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim expressed his “disappointment” with TM over the turn of events – more so when efforts to meet TM did not materialize when the latter did not respond.

The Johor Crown Prince’s speech was read by MFL chief executive officer Kevin Ramalingam.

Ramalingam has been tasked to find a new title sponsor for MFL.
