Two Malaysian men’s doubles pair Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi and professionals Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong snuffed out their Danish opponents to reach the quarter-finals in the USD1 million Victor China Open in Changzhou on Thursday.

World No 23 Yew Sin-Ee Yi battled for 74 minutes subdue No 8 seeds Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen 21-18, 14-21, 25-23 to earn a quarter-final tie against China’s No 3 seeds Li Junhui-Liu Yuchen. The Chinese hopes beat Indonesians Wahyu Nayaka Pangkaryanira-Ade Yusof Santoso 19-21, 21-14, 21-13.

It was also a tough71-minute match for newly crowned Chinese Taipei Open champions V Shem-Wee Kiong when the Rio Olympics silver medal winners fought tooth and nail against Mathias Boe-Mads Conrad Petersen before prevailing21-13,22-24, 27-25.

They face a tougher hurdle in top seeds Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia for a place in the last four. The Indonesians overcame Koreans Choi Solgyu-Seo Seung Jae 22-20, 18-21, 23-21.

National No 1 Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie came back from a game down to oust English No 8 seeds, Marcus Ellis-Lauren Smith of England with an 18-21, 21-17, 22-20 win in 70 minutes o advance in the mixed doubles.

The Malaysians next meet Thai fourth seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai who also needed three-games to beat Germany’s Mark Lmasfuss-Isabel Herttrich 19-21, 21-10, 21-11.

However, it was the end of the road for professionals Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying, The fifth-seeded Malaysians fell to Indonesia’s Tontowi Ahmad-Winny Oktavina Kandow 21-17, 21-23, 18-21 in 65 minutes.
