The Vietnam national side scored a morale-boosting 5-2 win over one of Thailand’s top club, PTT Chonburi Bluewave in a friendly at the Godang Stadium in Bangkok this week.

Given that the multiple Thai League winners and former AFC Futsal champions were without their bevy of stars, still the result was noteworthy for Vietnam head coach Miguel Rodrigo.

The match was keenly contested as both teams wasted a hatful of chances for the score to remain scoreless at the end of an exhilarating half.

The match went into higher gear in the 24th minute when Trirong Petchtaem slotted home the first goal of the match as teammate Xapa then doubled the advantage four minutes later.

But Vietnam rebounded with Tran Van Ho nailing their first goal of the game in the 32nd minute as Xapa then conceded an own goal two minutes later for the score to level up at 2-2.

With the introduction of power play, it was to be Vietnam who emerged victorious with Nguyen Thanh Tin grabbing a double with goals in the 38th and 40th minute to be followed by Ton That Phi right at the end.

Earlier, Vietnam had held current Thai Futsal League champions Port FC to a 1-1 draw.

Vietnam are preparing for the AFF HDBank Futsal Championship 2019 next week with only three slots available for the AFC Futsal Championship in 2020.
