Ceres-Negros FC are on course for their third Philippines Football League (PRL) title in a row after yet another convincing performance this week which saw that pegged Green Archers United 2-1 at the Aboitiz Field.

Senegalese striker Robert Lopez Mendy turned in the lead inside of two minutes off a cross from OJ Porteria as John Celiz then equalized for Green Archers on 71 minutes.

But Porteria was quick to give the Busmen the lead and the winner just five minutes later after latching on to a cross from national team-mate Stephan Schrock.

“We know that we’re three points away from winning the championship, but that’s not really our mentality right now,” said Porteria, whose team has been undefeated all season long.

“Our goal is to play each game, win and stay undefeated up to the end of the season.”

With just seven teams in the league, clubs will have to play each other home and away twice for a total of 24 matches.

And after 19 games in the PFL 2019, Ceres have picked up 53 points as against second-placed Kaya-FC Iloilo with 47 points from 20 games played.

On third is Stallions FC with 36 points from 22 matches.

In the meantime, Kaya FC–Iloilo have not given up their slim hope of winning the PFL title this year where this week, they thrashed Mendiola FC 5-1.

Jordan Mintah was irrepressible with four goals as Masanari Omura added the other in a one-sided affair as Mendiola’s lone goal came off Ricardo Sendra.
