Finally the field of the battle moved into Europe.
IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia riders Takaaki Nakagami and Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman came back on the track of Circuit de Jerez after six weeks from the last winter season test which held here in Jerez.
In the morning session FP1, Azlan Shah improved 0.7s off his best lap time ending in 15th place. Nakagami completed 21 laps finishing at 17th position.
Despite the temperature of the track elevated a lot in the afternoon and grip level was lower than the morning’s session, Nakagami improved 0.2s from FP1 ending at 17th position in the combined time. Azlan Shah struggled to improve but completed the first day of weekend at 16th place.
Tadayuki Okada (Team Manager)
“Despite the very difficult situation with very high track temperature, Nakagami in Free Practice 2, resolved the issue which he found in the morning session and rose the position at Free Practice 2. For tomorrow Qualifying, we try to find best setup and to be competitive.
Azlan was able to keep the postion better than Nakagmi at FP1, however, still have the issue to keep stable lap time even though when he was independent on the track.”
#30 Takaaki Nakagami
“I struggled from low grip from the beginning of the FP1 session. Especially I could not pull out the potential of the rear tire. In the afternoon, I challenged the session changing the setup. I was able to improve the lap time but we are still far from the best setup. For the tomorrow, I think that FP3 will be the key to be competitive in the
qualifying. We work hard all together for tomorrow!!”
#25 Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman
“I am very happy for the result of FP1 and had very good feeling with machine. However, I found difficulties at FP2 as the track condition had changed a lot and struggled for lower grip. Tomorrow will be hotter than today as weather forecast, I will try to keep my good rhythm in any conditions and get good position on the grid!”
