The first-ever Inter-Financial Institution Badminton Championship tournamentrecently took place at Sports Arena Sentosa. Organized by CTOS Data Systems, Malaysia’s leading Credit Reporting Agency, the annual tournament aims to cultivate stronger ties within the country’stop financial institutions through Malaysia’s favourite sport, badminton.

After a grueling and exciting two-day tournament, the Bank Simpanan Nasional team emerged as champions after beating Alliance Bank in a close and intense finals match with straight sets 3-0. Bank Negara Malaysia and the Ministry of Finance then fought it out for the third and fourth placing with Bank Negara Malaysia walking away winners defeating the Ministry of Finance 3-0.

“CTOS has organized a fantastic tournament. Not only were we able to build our team spirit and meet new people from similar industries, many of us were reacquainted with friends and colleagues that we have not seen in a long time. It has been an honour being the first winners of this tournament and we look forward to defending our title in next year’s championship,” commented Muhammad Rosman Hashim, Coach and Banking Officer Agent of Bank Simpanan Nasional.

The two-day competition, which took place on the 13th and 14th of May, had twelve institutions from the finance sector competing amongst for each other.  Each team competed in five categories – Men’s Singles, Ladies Doubles, Men’s Doubles, Mix Doubles and the Men’s Veteran Doubles. Cash prizes and medals were awarded to the Champion and Runners-up, as well as third and fourth placed teams. The Champion also received the CTOS Challenge Annual Trophy.

The participants included Affin Bank, Alliance Bank, Allianz Malaysia, Bank Negara Malaysia, Bank Rakyat, Bank Simpanan National, Deutsche Bank, HSBC Bank, Ministry of Finance, RHB Bank, SME Bank and CTOS Data Systems.

“As mentioned, our goal at CTOS is to improve Malaysia’s financial landscape. This championship is a step in creating a stronger public-private partnership within the financial sector in the country. Through badminton, Malaysia’s favourite sport, we can unite and foster stronger relationships between the financial sectors in Malaysia”, said Dennis Martin, Group CEO of CTOS Data Systems Sdn Bhd.

The winning team received a prize money of RM3000, the CTOS Challenge Annual Trophy and medals, while the runner-up received RM2000 prize money and medals and third and fourth place received RM1000 and RM500with medals respectively.
