
Down a goal at halftime, a powerful second half ended with Melbourne City getting the bragging rights in a nail-biting derby.
Two days out from Christmas, the Ninja A-League turned its attention to the Melbourne Derby, with City’s wish list featuring underlined at the very top: a third win of the season. Their local rivals Melbourne Victory were standing in their way, two wins in a row sitting them at the top of the ladder, a point ahead of Canberra United.
With minor chances from both sides in the opening stages, it was Melbourne City’s Leah Davidson who had the crowd in full voice in the 23rd minute, unleashing a scorching 30-yard strike that had Victory custodian Courtney Newbon at full stretch to glove it away.
