# Malaysia men and women to feature in the Finals in Kunshan

# BWF’s latest ranking list brings joy to Malaysian badminton

Malaysia will feature in the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup Finals to be held in Kunshan, China from May 15-22 this year.

Failure to qualify on merit for the Finals after failing to reach the semi-finals in last month’s Badminton Asia Team Championships in Hyderabad, India did not matter for the Malaysian teams.

Malaysia will make the trip to Kunshan as one of the 16 teams who will for the premier badminton tournament when the Badminton World Federation released its latest ranking list on Friday.

The Malaysians are ranked sixth in the men’s and 10th in the women’s – which gives them the berth in the Finals.

Defending champions Japan, who beat Malaysia 3-2 in a major upset at the last Thomas Cup Final in New Delhi, India, are seeded fifth while China are the top seeds. Denmark are seeded second with South Korea third and Asian champions Indonesia seeded fourth.

Japan, Malaysia, India and Taiwan are seeded 5/8 while remaining teams Hong Kong, Thailand, England, Germany, France, Mexico, South Africa and New Zealand fall into the 9/16 bracket.

In the Uber Cup, China qualified as hosts, defending champions and winners of the continental team championships. Other continent winners are Denmark (Europe), USA (Pan Am), Australia (Oceania) and Mauritius.

India, Indonesia, Taiwan, Malaysia and Hong Kong made it through the world ranking points.

The draw for the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup Finals will be held in Kunshan on March 21.
