Host Japan secured one crown from three finals at the Kumamoto Masters 2025, which concluded on the weekend at the Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium in Kumamoto, Japan.

In the all-Japan final of the Men’s Singles, the solitary crown for the host this year played on Kyushu island came through Kodai Naraoka, who overcame Kenta Nishimoto in 73 minutes.

Fourth-seeded Kodai, whose highest ranking was world No. 2 two years ago, scooped up his first BWF World Tour title this year with a 21-11, 10-21, 21-15 victory over Kenta.

The hope of a second title for Japan was dashed in the final of the Men’s Doubles when underdogs Hiroki Midorikawa and Kyohei Yamashita could not get the better of world No. 1 Kim Won-ho-Seo Seung-jae from South Korea.

Won-ho-Seung-jae recovered from the 20-22 defeat in the first set to triumph 21-11, 21-16 for the Men’s Doubles crown.

The Korean pair, who reunited earlier this year, asserted their dominance by claiming their tenth title in 2025 – eclipsing the achievement of Indonesia’s Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, who won nine titles in a single season in 2018.

Japan was also denied in the final of the Women’s Doubles when Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi lost in straight sets to Malaysia’s Pearly Tan-Thinaah Muralitharan.

It took Women’s Doubles top seed Pearly-Thinaah 54 minutes to wrap up their third BWF World Tour title this year with a 22-20, 21-19 win over Rin-Kie.

Thailand emerged as the overall champion of the Kumamoto Masters 2025 with two titles – in the Women’s Singles and the Mixed Doubles.

The first title was won by the Mixed Doubles pair of Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran, when they overcame Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue from France.

In the repeat of last year’s Kumamoto Masters final, Dechapol-Supissara took just over an hour to chalk the 21-18, 14-21, 21-18 win over Gicquel-Delrue.

Then, Ratchanok Intanon delivered the second title for Thailand through the Women’s Singles with a clinical 21-16, 22-20 victory over recently recovered Gregoria Mariska Tunjung from Indonesia.
