Defending champions Johor Darul Takzim are back on top in the Super League after a narrow 2-1 win over gritty Perak at the Larkin Stadium in Johor Bahru on Tuesday.
However, there were shocks elsewhere as T-Team (Terengganu FC II) pulled off a stunning 4-2 win over Kelantan in Kuala Terengganu and Sarawak registered their first win in six matches, coming back from a goal down to edge Penang 2-1.
Selangor also dropped precious points with a 2-2 draw with promoted Kedah at the Selayang Stadium. Pahang’s miserable run in the league continued and are still winless after going down 2-0 to Police in Kuantan.
T-Team gave their home fans plenty to cheer at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Kuala Terengganu, collecting their first full points but beating arch-rivals Kelantan was extra sweet for the Titans.
Dilshod Sharofetdinov was the hero for T-Team with a brace. He opened scoring with a well executed freekick after 19 minutes and closed accounts for his team with a header in the 70th minute.
The other scorers for T-Team were Patrick Dos Santos (38th) and Makan Konate ((42nd) while Kelantan scored through an own goal by T-Team keeper Wan Azraie Wan Teh and Blazhe Ilijoski.
Sarawak rode on an injury time goal by J. Pathiban to stun Penang at the City Stadium. Matias Cardoba opened scoring for the Panthers on 24 minutes only to see Sarawak draw level through Gilmar Filho in the 58th minute.
Cardoba muffed a penalty in the 60th minute and Penang paid dearly for the miss and Parthiban turned hero for the Crocs with the winner deep into added time.
Kedah were 1-0 up after only seven minutes through Syazwan Zainon but Selangor were 2-1 up when R. Gopinathan and Patrick Ronaldinho Wleh hit target in the 30th and 31st minutes respectively. Sandro da Silva Mendoca scored from the penalty spot in the 67th minute for Kedah to share the spoils.
JDT had to come from behind at the Larkin Stadium with Perak going ahead through Elias Fernandez. However, a penalty changed things for the Southern Tigers after 48 minutes. The Argentine hitman completed his brace on 53 minutes keep to JDT’s unbeaten record in the 12-team league.
At the Daruk Makmur Stadium in Kuantan it was bad start for Pahang’s new coach Razip Ismail as Police rode on their foreign firepower for a 2-0 win. Singapore international Safuwan Baharuddin (40th) and Maldives national skipper Ali Ashfaq (penalty 77th) did the damage.
The Elephants are entrenched at the bottom with only one point.
