BAM’s Marcus Hang Yug Hwei booked his spot in the quarterfinals of the Boys’ Under-16 Singles AFFIN 100PLUS Junior Elite Tour Finals 2026 when he emerged at the top of Group C with a perfect record of six wins from six matches played at the Juara Stadium.
What made the string of victories more remarkable for the 16-year-old lad from the East Coast was that he had achieved all of it without dropping a single set.
After five straight wins in the preceding days, Marcus Hang showed further quality today when he fended off the challenge of Kieshen Sai Rao Nyanaprakash Rao from Kedah 21-19, 23-21 in 40 minutes for his spot in the quarterfinals.
However, Kieshen Sai Rao should not be overly disappointed as he will also start in the quarterfinals of the Boys’ U16 Singles tomorrow after coming in as the runner-up in the group.
In Group A, another BAM’s representative, Wong Yin Heng, was also perfect with six wins from six matches as he made the progress to the quarterfinals with Melaka’s Ho Jia Yu joining him.
And earlier today, Yin Heng made sure of his win of the group with a 21-11, 21-6 win over Alfred Phua Ze Zuan from Johor in 25 minutes.
In the meantime, Chong Lee Qian made it a dramatic finish when it took the final tie to decide the Group B winner.
After conceding a loss to Joshua Karunagaran from Kedah in the earlier match of the group, the 16-year-old Lee Qian’s 21-16, 21-8 win over Johor’s Jonas Chern Wen Xun today ensured his place in the next round.
Melaka’s Jared Tan is also in the quarterfinals.
