# JBDHA to make its debut in National Women’s Hockey League

# Initial target is to reach the semi-finals

Defending champions Police and Terengganu, with a bulk of national players in their sides, are the hot favourites for honours in this year’s National Women’s League which begins on Thursday.

However, it stops at that for newcomers Johor Bahru District Hockey Association (JBDHA) – the only team from Johor that will be competing in the league as part of development in the state.

JBDHA has named a young team and according to JBDHA secretary A. Harbhajan Singh the young talent “will be up to the challenge” to face the big names in the sox-team league.

“We had a month’s training and played some friendly matches as part of the team’s preparations for our debut in the league. Our first target is to make the semi-finals and take off from there,” said Harbhajan,

JBDHA play their first match against PKS_Uinversiti Tenaga National-KPT on Thursday. The match will be played at Pantai in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

JBDHA will compete in the league with a tight budget. To cut costs the team will travel in the morning on the day of match and return to Johor Bahru after the match.

“It will cost us about RM40,000 to compete in the league. There is a lot of talent in our team and the exposure gained in competing against strong sides like Police and Terengganu it will do the players good,” added a Harbhajan, who once coached the Thailand women’s hockey team.

Due to financial constraints JBDHA have not hired any foreign players.

Apart from Police, Terengganu, PKS Universiti Tenaga Nasional-KPT and JBDHA the other teams in the league are Kulim and Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI).
