More than 1,000 athletes will participate in ‘2017 SEA Games Programme’ from July 6-9 at the National Sports Council (NSC) Complex at Bukit Jalil.

NSC director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail said the programme is supported by over 40 sports associations which will send athletes to the 29th SEA Games hosted by Malaysia.

“We will hold a workshop with all sports associations to identify the first group of athletes involved in the training programme.

“After Aidilfitri, we will provide training programmes with the coaches to enable Malaysia to emerge as overall SEA Games champions in 2017.”

Malaysia’s 60th Independence Day celebration in 2017 is an important platform to uplift the spirit of athletes participating in the biennial event.

Malaysia emerged as overall champions when hosting the 2001 SEA Games with a collection of 111 gold medals.

Malaysia won 62 gold medals at the Singapore SEA Games from June 5-16. – BERNAMA
