* All-Selangor final in Boys’ and Girls’ Under-18 singles

* Penang in the running for Boys’ and Girls” Under-16

IT will be an all-Selangor final in the Boys’ and Girls’ Under-18 singles in the 100PLUS National Junior Circuit Zone A (1st Leg) in Alor Star but Penang spoiled the part for the Klang Valley outfit by have a representative each in the Boys’ and Girls’ Under-16 finals on Saturday.

In the semi-finals played on Friday Boys’ Under-18 top seed and hot favourite Muhammad Lukman Hakim battled for 49 minutes before he could subdue compatriot Kelvin Ng (seeded 5/8) in a tight contest before winning 26-24, 24-22.

In the final he will take on compatriot Muhammad Izzuddin Shamsul Muzli who stopped Penang’s hope Yeoh Seng Zoe in a three-set thriller before winning 21-17, 19-21, 21-14 in 45 minutes. Seng Zoe had toppled second seed Woon Man Hung of Selangor 21-12, 21-18 in the quarter-finals on Thursday.

The Girls’ Under-18 singles semi-finals were all-Selangor affair with tournament favourite and top seed K. Bhirentha leading the challenge. Bhirentha, who has been in impressive form in Alor Star made shortwork of teammate Yonna Lee Zhi Qing with a 21-15, 21-19 win in 27 minutes. Her opponent in the final is Teoh Yong Jie (seeded 3/4) who prevailed 21-18, 21-17 against Lydia Ngor Zhuang in 21 minutes.

Selangor are also assured of the Boys’ Under-18 doubles title with Low Hang Yi-Woon Man Hung taking on Izzuddin Shamsul Muzli-Muhammad Syazmil Idham. In the semifinals Hang Yi-Man Hung defeated Ching Jakie-Tee Yong Jie of Perlis 21-17, 21-19 while Izzuddin-Syazmil got the better of compatriots Kelvin Ng-Shahzan Shah Misfaul 21-15, 21-18.

Selangor will also feature in the Girls’ Under-18 doubles final through Teoh Mei Xing-Yonna Lee Zhi Qing who denied Penang’s Choo Tze Bao-Chuah Yin Er a place in the final with a 21-10, 21-11 win in 20 minutes. In the other semi-final Penang’s Kong Yi Jin-Lim Jee Lynn stopped Kedah’s Kok Pei Yin-Tan Yao En 22-20, 21-19 in 32 minutes.

 K. Jothiswaran of Selangor pulled off an upset when he showed compatriot and second seed Lim Yik Fong the exit in the Boys’ Under-16 with a 21-18, 21-18 win in 45 minutes to take a crack at the title. However, his opponent in the final is top seed Ng Eng Cheong of Penang who breezed through a 21-19, 21-15 win over Lim Yik Shen of Selangor.

The Girls’ Under-16 singles title is also in the offing for Selangor. In the semi-finals top seed K. Saranya defeated Ooi She Jie of Penang 21-14, 21-19. Saranya will take on second seeded Lee Shun Mei who won 22-20, 21-19 against Selangor’s M. Selinaah (seeded 3/4).
