Tomorrow’s last 16 match between German World No 81 Carina Witthoeft and World No 92 KlaraKoukalova of The Czech Republic promises to be an interesting match as the winner of this match could face top seed and World No 5 Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark in the Quarterfinals of The BMW Malaysian Open 2015.

Koukalova comes into this match brimming with confidence as she won her first round match against Austrian World No 134 Patricia Mayr-Achleitner in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Witthoeft on the other hand will be hoping to bring her best game to the court when she faces Koukalova as in her first round match, she was made to work hard for her win by Japanese World No 100 MisakiDoi.

Koukalova will be eager to do well here as her last WTA title win was back in March last year when she won the Brasil Tennis Cup, and she has not made an impact in any tournament that she has played at so far this year. Witthoeft on the other hand started off this year well when she made it to the 3rd round of the Australian Open where she lost to Romanian Irina-CameliaBegu in straight sets.

In the doubles, third seed Ukrainians YuliyaBeygelzimer and Olga Savchuk could set up a clash of the titans with top seeds pair DarijaJurak and KlaraKoukalova in the semifinals, provided they are able to overcome their Polish opponents Magda Linette and KatarzynaPiter in the quarterfinals. Interestingly, Piter and Savchuk have partnered each other before in doubles competition.

Prior to this, Beygelzimer and Savchuk’s took part in The Qatar Total Open where they exited the tournament in the first round. Beygelzimer and Savchuk have won a WTA Title as a pair when they triumphed in April last year at the Katowice Open in Poland where they defeated Koukalova and her then partner Monica Niculescu of Romania, also on hardcourt.

Beygelzimer has only won three WTA titles in her long career, all of which in doubles competition. With age catching up at 31, competing in doubles could be where the future of her tennis career lies. Savchuk has played doubles in Malaysia before when she partnered LyudmylaKichenok at last year’s BMW Malaysian Open when they defeated DarijaJurak and Megan Moulton in the quarterfinals.

The tennis action continues to heat up on the hard courts of The Royal Selangor Golf Club as both singles and doubles players battle it out in their quest for the coveted titles. Stay tuned for all the tennis action happening right here at the BMW Malaysian Open 2015.
