GAMBANG (13 April 2014) – In what was described as the drive towards creating a Malaysian football DNA, the National Football Development Plan (NFDP) was launched by Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abul Razak.

The plan is a collaboration between the FA of Malaysia (FAM), the Ministry of Education and also the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“The plan is to bring back Malaysian football to where it used to be and for us Malaysians to be competitive at the world stage,” said Dato’ Sri Najib.
“Today, we are putting down the foundation for the future of Malaysian football to one day; our team can make the World Cup. That is my dream and I hope that it is also the dream of every Malaysians.

“Everyone should come together towards making that dream a reality.”

The NFDP will focus on the development of kids aged 7-17-year-old where by 2020, the target is to have 150 centres nationwide. The best 500 players will be based at the newly unveiled Mokhtar Dahari National Football Academy in Gambang.

“The NFDP is designed to create and instil Malaysia’s own football DNA,” added Khairy Jamaluddin, the Minister of Youth and Sports. “Which means everyone will have a role to play.”
