For a player who worked his way into the first team and played a sterling role in Terengganu’s march into the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals, it is a premature end to his season for 23-year-old centreback Wan Ahmad Amirzafran Wan Nadris.

The Kuantan-born Amirzafran can is scheduled to go for ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) surgery tomorrow which will keep him out of competitive football for the next six to seven months.

Terengganu head coach Irfan Bakti describes Amirzafran as “talented footballer with a bright future who earned his first-team place in Terengganu on merit” and the injury as “unfortunate.”

“No one is to be blamed for the injury. Amirzafran landed awkwardly on his right leg and buckled. We blame no one. I have lost a pillar in the team but I cannot harp on the shortcoming as we look for a place in the semi-finals,” said Irfan from Kuala Terengganu. RIZAL ABDULLAH
