The successful organisation of the Indonesia National Para Games 2024, popularly known as PEPARNAS 2024, is proof of NPC Indonesia’s strong commitment to remain as among the leading catalysts in developing para-sports in Southeast Asia.
The recent conclusion of the 17th edition of the Pekan Paralimpiade Nasional (PEPARNAS 2024), staged two years after the hugely successful 11th ASEAN Para Games 2022 in Solo, is a testament to Indonesia’s continuous effort in providing pathways for athletes to achieve excellence through sports participation.
ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) president Major General Osoth Bhavilai, who attended PEPARNAS 2024 closing ceremony at Manahan Stadium over the weekend, commended Indonesia for its strong commitment in building on the legacy left after the successful organisation of the 11th ASEAN Para Games Solo 2022.
As the biggest local para sporting extravaganza, PEPARNAS 2024, , held from 6-13 October, saw the participation of more than 4,500 athletes and officials from 37 provinces who competed in 567 events across 20 sports, with 144 new national records and one ASEAN record set.
“The Games is a continuation of the hugely successful ASEAN Para Games 2022, which had greatly helped the organisers in crucial areas such as technical and sports, classification, commercial, branding, media and broadcast and other relevant areas,” said APSF President Major General Osoth Bhavilai. Also present at the Games was Senior Colonel Dr Wandee Tosuwan, APSF secretary-general.
“Modelled after the 2022 Solo Games, PEPARNAS 2024 underpinned the importance of close collaboration and commitments between the government, NPCs, and other important stakeholders. APSF will continue to support our NPCs in promoting equality and inclusivity as well as providing athletes with the right platforms to excel in their sports,” said Maj Gen Bhavilai.

APSF secretary-general Sen Col Wandee Tosuwan echoed similar remarks, saying that the ASEAN Para Games 2022 has left beneficial legacies including increasing awareness on para athletes and sports, the rights of persons with disabilities apart from turning Solo into an inclusive and accessible city.
“I’m glad to see that Peparnas 2024, using similar standards as the ASEAN Para Games 2022, was successfully staged with great facilities and high standards of organisation in critical areas such as technical, sports, manpower, classification, branding, media and broadcast, commercial strategies.
This Games is also part of Indonesia’s preparation towards the hosting of World Ability Games scheduled in Jakarta in September 2025.
“It is important for member nations to ensure high organising standards in their respective national Games, which will help widen their pool of talents for future international Games,” said Col. Wandee.
Meanwhile, Maj Gen Bhavilai also commended Indonesia for the setting up of the National Paralympic Training Centre located in the Karaganyar province, which is expected to be fully completed next year. “Not only it would help local athletes and officials to undergo proper training and preparation, but the facilities at the centre can also be utilised by athletes in the region to help them improve their performances.”
