National Under-22 football squad coach Frank Bernhardt is confident that his side can do well against the Nepal national team in an international friendly at Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Paroi here, tomorrow night.

He said this was based on their performance against the Philippines U-22 squad on Wednesday, where they beat the latter 4-1.

“If the players can maintain the pace of the game as demonstrated against the Philippines U-22 , I am sure we can win. I hope the players do not become complacent and remain fully committed to the game,” he told reporters here, Saturday.

He acknowledged facing Nepal was more difficult than the Philippines U-22 team, as the former were a more experienced squad.

“Nepal is a strong opponent, and this is an opportunity for my players to gain useful experience. What pleases me is that the players are starting to get into a good rhythm in the practice sessions, and I hope the players can enhance their understanding.

“I want them (the players) to improve from one game to another. I’m sure they will put up a good display tomorrow night,” he said.

Skipper Mohamad Faris Shah Mohd Rosli said his colleagues have been able to adapt to the training patterns, tactics and strategy introduced by the German coach.

Meanwhile, head coach of Nepal, Koji Gyotoku of Japan said he had just begun coaching Nepal three weeks ago, and was still studying the style of play of his team, adding that the friendly was a good opportunity for him to study the strengths and weaknesses of his squad. – BERNAMA
