The time is now for Liqui Moly Team Engstler to reclaim the Championship lead as TCR Asia heads to the last six races of the 2017 season. The team arrived on Monday and have started preparations to race at the 3.8km street circuit.
The weekend may prove to be a challenge with limited practice time but Kurt Treml and his team will have the two time Bangsaen Circuit race winner, Kantadhee Kusiri’s experience to learn from to help fight back for the lead.
“In Zhuhai we lost the lead in the Championship and here we want to hit back!” said Treml, the Sport & Marketing Director of Liqui Moly Team Engstler.
The team led the Championship from the start of the season and were having strong races with solid results but the mistake with tyre choice and the issue with Diego Moran’s suspension cost them the lead.
As with every race, the team and drivers have put the past races aside and are focused on the goal ahead – to reclaim the Championship lead.
“Kusiri will have a really good home advantage as he won the last two TCR Thailand races here last year and we hope he can use this advantage now, especially since there will be no Free Practice sessions on this street circuit. His track knowledge should help.
“For Moran it would be a little bit more difficult as it is his first time here but naturally, he will have the guidance of his teammate for the weekend” ended Treml.
Weather is expected to be changeable during the weekend with forecast citing a high of 32oC as well as thunderstorms, making for an interesting tyre play at the beachside race venue.
Liqui Moly Team Engstler will compete in the full TCR Asia Series 2017 season with two Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR with car #2 driven by Kantadhee Kusiri of Thailand and car #32 driven by Diego Moran of China. The team is supported by Liqui Moly, Remus, VW Motorsport, Hella Pagid, Drexler drivetrain, Motec rims, Recaro and Eibach.
