Boys’ Under-18 singles top seed Kuala Lumpur’s Muhammad Aiman Abdul Malik and second seeded Wong Wai Jun of Negri Sembilan drew first round byes to move into the second round on the first day of the 100PLUS National Junior Badminton Zone B in Putrajaya on Wednesday.
In the second round to be played on Thursday, Aiman will face Putrajaya’s Moh Mun Kit, who also drew a bye in the first round while Wai Jun’s will meet Johor’s Leong Wei Lun, another player who advanced without lifting his racquet after getting bye in the first round.
In a first round match Johor’s Labieb Muhzafar Lakamagi advanced to the second round with a 21-16, 21-16 win over Negri Sembilan’s Khoo Wei Ping. Pahang’s Lee Zu Fei also got off to a winning start to his campaign with a 21-18, 21-17 win over Putrajaya’s Niigel Wong.
Terengganu’s Tok Swee Sing, top seed in the Girls’ Under-18 singles will face Malacca’s Joanne Wee Shoun in the second round after both received bye in the first round.
Second seeded Lim Ying Xuan of Malacca will take on Johor’s Wong Kelly in the second round. The Johor lass was fully stretched by Negri’s Lee An Nie before prevailing 21-16, 18-21, 21-17 in her first round match.
Meanwhile in Zone A played in Alor Star Boys’ Under-18 singles top seed Muhammad Lukman Hakim of Selangor whipped Kedah’s Lai Kuan Zer 21-10, 21-14 in a second round match. Lukman received a walkover from G. Mugunthen of Perak in the first round.
Second seed Woon Man Hung of Selangor defeated compatriot Izzat Farhan Azhar 21-12, 21-18 in another second round match.
