The Malaysia Karate Federation (MAKAF) are not wavering in their target of winning just six gold medals at KL2017, so as to ease the pressure on their athletes.

In 2013 in Myanmar, Malaysia bagged seven gold medals, three silvers and five bronzes to top the karate medal standings as the overall champions.
Secretary general Vincent Chen Chee Hong announced that MAKAF have decided to maintain the target of six goal medals with 21 exponents listed for KL2017 in August.
“We’ll try our best to win of course as we have set the target for them to gold considering that they are the best 21 exponents in the country,” said Vincent.
“We had a briefing with the team last week. For us, winning the six gold medals or more, the glory belongs to the whole team. And if we fail to reach that target, then the failure will be shared by the team as well.”
Latvian coach Andris Vasiljevs, who have been the national head coach since 2012: “at home, it’s a bigger responsibility and we take it seriously. We’re preparing and working hard to win every possible opportunity to come up as the winner. And we’re trying our best not to create any unnecessary pressure on the athletes.” – BY ALVIN OH
