Malaysia redeemed their battered pride in archery to clinch two golds on Thursday – winning the men’s and women’s team compound at the National Archery Range in KL Sports City, Bukit Jalil on Thursday.

The two gold medal haul made up for Malaysia’s disappointment in the individual events at the same venue on Wednesday.

The joy of winning the gold on Thursday was seen on everyone’s faces, including Youth and Sports YB Brig Gen Khairy Jamaluddin.

Mohd Juwaidi Mazuki made up for his failure in the individual event to combine with Lee Kin Lip and Zulfadhli Ruslan to defend the compound gold with a 228-222 win over Singapore’s three-some Ang Han Teng, Alan Lee Chung Hee and Pang Toh Jin.

Juwaidi faltered in the men’s singles final on Wednesday – losing 144-145 to Indonesia’s Prima Wisnu Wandhana.

Intan Nurfatehah combined with Saritha Cham Nong and Nurul Syazhera Asmi to down Vietnam trio Chau Kieu Oanh, Huyen Le Ngoc and Nguyen Thi Nat Le in a nail-biting three arrow shoot-off.

The Malaysian women came off 28-27 winners for the gold while Vietnam settled for the silver after both teams ended in a 225-225 stalemate. – BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
