FARISAN Jasnal scored five goals and Mohd Sobri Ghazali nailed four as Malaysia pulverised Cambodia 12-0 to advance to the semi-finals of the Celebral Palsy (CP) Football competition at the National Sports Council field in Bukit Jalil on Tuesday (Sept 19).
The Malaysians, who had outclassed Singapore 5-3 on Monday, topped Group A table standings with six points from two matches.
Farisan scored in the seventh, 14th, 24th, 36th and 49th and minutes whilst team captain Mohd Sobri scored in the 16th 22nd, 46th and 52nd minutes. Khairi Ismail, Uthman Surur and Zul Asyraf Zulkifli added to the Cambodian misery with goals in the 30th, 37th and 54th minutes.
Singapore and Cambodia will play on Wednesday (Sept 20) to decide the second team to qualify for the semi-finals from Group A.
As for defending champions Thailand, their hopes of a second consecutive gold medal, were dashed when they failed to qualify for the semi-finals from Group B following a 2-1 defeat against Indonesia.
The Thais went ahead with an eighth minute goal through Wanna Nattapong. The Indonesians bounced back with goals from Joko Saputra Adi in the 32nd minute and Hernanda Yahya 14 minutes later to surprise the defending champions with this famous win.
