Shortly after scoring a comfortable 2-0 win over Mongolia on the weekend, Singapore head coach Fandi Ahmad has called on his players to have more belief in the team.

In the match that was played at the Bishan Stadium, Hariss Harun and Gabriel Quak struck late in the game to chalk up the Lions’s back to back win after putting down Fiji last month.

Following a slow start, Singapore finally broke the deadlock in the 71st minute with an opportunistic finish from Hariss as he finished off a poor clearance from Mongolian keeper Monkh-Erdene Enkhtaivan.

Gabriel then finished off a fine move eight minutes to the end for the win.

“I think importantly, they (players) know their roles. (We are) always trying to say, it’s about the team and discipline. “If we are tactically disciplined, I think we can create a lot of chances. We must believe in the team and I can see everybody is trying very hard,” said Fandi.

“The last three matches (we’ve played) are all very physical, which is good for us to experience and learn before our (AFF) Suzuki Cup (campaign) because not many teams are very physical like that.

“The important thing is that we want to focus on our finishing; defensively, we are quite okay but we (also) need to improve.”
