The Johor Hockey Association has become the envy of many – as it became the first hockey association in the country to own a building of its own which even the national body has not been able to do.

UM Land Berhad sprang a pleasant by handing over the RM1.8 million four-story building which is located at Fortuna Hub in Seri Alam on the outskirts of the Johor Bahru city during the official launch of the annual Sultan of Johor Cup Under-21 Invitational tournament.

The man who made it possible is Johor HA deputy president Datuk Majid Manjit Abdullah who clinched the “deal” on late Wednesday on the eve of the Sultan of Johor Cup launch at the Puteri Pacific Hotel in Johor Bahru on Thursday.

The Sultan of Johor Cup, a six-nation tournament, is into its ninth edition and has grown from strength to strength since it was inaugurated in 2011.

Describing it as “historic” Manjit said the deal was done at UM Land office in Bukit Ceylon in Kuala Lumpur between UM Land deputy executive chairman Dato Ng Eng Tee, Dato Mike Musa (UM Land) and himself.

At the mock cheque presentation for the Sultan of Johor Cup, the mock key was presented by Eng Tee’s son Dennis Ng to Dato Dennis Muhammad Abdullah, who was the official representative of Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar. Dennis Abdullah is the son-in-law of Sultan Ibrahim.

“This is historic for Johor HA. We have achieved another first and we are proud to have a building of our won. The property will be used to generate funds for the association. It is four-story build with lift. JHA will operate from the top floor while we will rent out the remaining three floors,” said Manjit. – BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
