With less than a month to go to the start of the Ministry of Education League Cup (Liga KPM) a refresher course was held for all coaches of teams from the various Sports School that was conducted by Lim Teong Kim, the director of the National Football Development Programme (NFDP).

The MELC this year will begin with the customary Charity match that will be played at the SMK Mutiara Impian Mini Stadium in Penang with the hosts taking on Terengganu’s SMK Bukit Nenas.

The game has pegged for 28 February.

As it was last year, the refresher course that was attended by 40 coaches from across the country including Sabah and Sarawak was held to make sure that a national coaching programme was inducted into youth coaching.

“A national programme with a standard module would translate into a more streamlined development ideal,” said Teong Kim.

“We hope that from this coaching course, the coaches at the youth level would understand what we are trying to achieve and that is having a national identity for Malaysia.”

The course was held on 27-31 February with training at both Victoria Institution and also the National Sports Council.

“Of course, we learn quite a lot of things from this refresher course,” said Basirul Bau Bakar, the head coach of SMK Tunku Anum.

“It is the methodology which is so important and training with the ball is essential.”
