Malaysia’s rising start Goh Jin Wei was stopped at the final hurdle in last month’s Indonesia Masters but the junior world champion has been given an opportunity to turn the tables against Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan – this time in the Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold in Bangkok.

Busanan defeated the 16-year-old Jin Wei 21-15, 21-13 for the Indonesian title. The two cross paths again for only their second meeting after both won their quarter-final matches in the USD120,000 Thailand Open.

Busanan, the No 3 seed, overcame Singapore’s No 7 seed Liang Xiaoyu 20-22, 21-13, 21-12 after a tough 63 minutes at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok while the unseeded Jin Wei took only 30 minutes for a 21-17, 21-13 win over compatriot Ho Yen Mei.

Thailand’s No 4 seed Nitchaon Jindapol also booked her place in the last four with a 21-12, 21-15 win over Indonesia’s Dinar Dyah Ayustine to set up a clash against Japan’s Aya Ohori. The Japanese lass upset Malaysia’s No 6 seed Tee Jing Yi 21-13, 21-6.

Malaysia are also in the running in the mixed doubles with No 3 seeds Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing needing three sets to prevail 21-15, 19-21, 21-11 against Taiwan’s Liao Min Chun-Chen Hsao Huan.

Privateers Lim Khim Wah-Ong Jian Guo kept Malaysia’s flag flying in the men’s doubles by booking their place in the last four with an upset 21-15, 17-21, 21-14 win over Thai hopes and No 3 seeds Bodin Isara-Nipitphon Phuangphuapet in 56 minutes.

Indonesian veteran Sony Dwi Kuncoro, the No 2 seed was impressive in his 21-12, 21-15 win over Taiwan’s Hsueh Hsuan Yi and will face Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu for a place in the final. Cheuk Yiu showed Malaysian privateer Daren Liew the exit with a 21-12, 17-21, 21-15 win.

Thailand’s hope in the men’s singles – No 5 seed Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk was too strong for his compatriot Suppanyu Avihingsanon and won easily 21-8, 21-18 and will play apan’s No 8 seed Kenta Nishimoto. The Japanese upset No 3 seed Hsu Jen-hao of Taiwan 21-16, 21-11.
