The Westfield Matildas and superstar Sam Kerr have been honoured at the annual Womenâs Health Women in Sport Awards this week.
Now in their seventh year, the Womenâs Health Women in Sport Awards recognise and celebrate Australiaâs female athletes â from grassroots through to elite professional level â and their achievements over the past 12 months.
Star attacker Sam Kerr was named the Womenâs Health Sportswoman of the Year 2017 while the Westfield Matildas took out the A-Team of the Year category
Kerrâs award comes after an incredible year for both club and country, with the striker recently named in the NWSLâs âBest XIâ after her performances for Sky Blue FC in the USA.
The 24-year-old scored an incredible 17 goals during the regular season, setting a new record for the most goals scored in a single season.
She also become the first player to net four goals in a single match and also hit the leagueâs fastest ever hat-trick (12 minutes) in her sideâs 5-4 win over Kansas City.
Kerr also became the first player to hit two hat-tricks in a season and is one of five nominees for the leagueâs Most Valuable Player.
Earlier in the year, Kerr claimed the Julie Dolan medal as the Westfield W-Leagueâs best player after a stellar campaign with Perth Glory.
Meanwhile, the Matildasâ impressive run of form in 2017 was rewarded with Alen Stajcicâs named the Team of the Year.
Australia claimed the Tournament of Nations in August following consecutive victories over USA, Japan and Brazil.
The Matildas then claimed back-to-back wins over Brazil in a two-match friendly series on home soil back in September. –Â www.footballaustralia.com.au
