National champion Soong Joo Ven will not play in tomorrow’s Group C decider against second seeds China after helping Malaysia crush minnows Macau China in the Badminton Asia Tong Yun Kai Cup Mixed Team Championships at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wanchai, Hong Kong on Wednesday.

Joo Ven, despite nursing a left groin injury he sustained while playing in the German Open, strolled past Ao Fei Long 21-3, 21-8 for Malaysia’s third point in the 5-0 whitewash.

“I played against Macau but tomorrow’s (Thursday) tie against China will be crucial to deciding the group champions and my place will be taken by Cheam June Wei. I don’t want to aggravate the injury,” said Joo Ven after his win.

Earlier, Malaysia took the men’s doubles through Low Hang Yee-Ng Eng Cheong who ran easy 21-10, 21-9 winners in 18 minutes against Iek U Leong-Leong for the first point.

Women’s singles Ho Yen Mei made it 2-0 for Malaysia, defeating Pui Chi Wa  21-13, 21-11 in 20 minutes before Joo Ven took the court.
In the women’s doubles, Anna Cheong Ching Yik-Teoh Mei Ying warmed up to a 21-15, 21-12 win over Gong Xue Xin-Ng Weng Chi in 22 minutes for the fourth point.
