Vietnam will take on Thailand in the final of the women’s football event at the SEA Games 2019 following the semifinal matches that was played last night.

Defending champions Vietnam beat hosts the Philippines 2-0 at the Binan Football Stadium while Thailand edged Myanmar 1-0 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

It was by no means an easy walk in the park for Vietnam as the Philippines put up some tough resistance to fend off the visiting side t a scoreless draw at the break.

And it was after some relentless pressure that Vietnam finally managed to find the back of the net right at the hour mark with a cross from Pham Thi Thuoi that was finished by Thai Thi Thao at the far post.

Nguyen Tuyet Dung then finished things off with six minutes left on the clock with a placing short to put Vietnam in the final of the meet.

In the meantime, Thailand were made to toil for their place in the final when they came up against a determined side from Myanmar before they were able to eke out a 1-0 win.

Khin Marlar Tun and co were by no means overawed at playing against a side that had featured at the recent FIFA World Cup in France.

And while they managed to trade Thailand blows for blows, there was just no stopping them from winning the tie with a well taken shot from Orapin Waenngoen in the 77th minute.

A clever one-two with veteran Pitsamai Sornsai, allowed Orapin to unleash a shot that rocked the Myanmar post before bouncing into goal.

That was all that was needed to separate the two sides as Thailand will now face Vietnam for the gold medal tie.
