* Penang’s Seng Zoe upsets 2nd seed Selangor’s Man Hung in Zone A in Alor Star
Kuala Lumpur’s Muhammad Aiman Abdul Malik, the top seed stayed on course for the Boys’ Under-18 singles title in the 100PLUS National Junior Circuit Zone B (1st Leg) in Putrajaya when he marched into the third round after a hard fought three-set battle with unseeded Goh Mun Kit of Putrajaya on Thursday.
Aiman came back from a set down to carve out a 19-21, 21-11, 21-16 in a one hour battle and will now face Johor’s Labieb Muhzafar Lakamagi who prevailed 21-15, 21-18 against Malacca’s Joeshon Ng Swee Zhen in another second round match.
However, it was the end of the road for joint 3/4 seed Muhammad Shahmi Ab’Dillah of Terengganu. The Terengganu hopeful fell to a 14-21, 15-21 defeat to Johor’s Richie Ting Wei Jing.
In Zone A played in Alor Star, Penang’s Yeoh Seng Zoe pulled off an upset over second seeded Woon Man Hung with a 21-12, 21-18 win in the quarter-finals to put a dent in Selangor’s pride.
Seng Zoe will now face another Selangor player Muhammad Izzuddin Shamsul in the semi-finals. Izzuddin defeated Perak’s Kenneth Choo Zhe Hooi 21-13, 21-17 in his quarter-final encounter.
Top seed and hot favourite Muhammad Lukman Hakim of Selangor outplayed compatriot M. Kiran Raj 21-15, 21-13. Waiting for him in the semi-finals is compatriot Kelvin Ng. Kelvin defeated Low Yang Yi 21-13, 21-11 in another all-Selangor quarter-final match.
