# Mixed doubles Kian Meng-Pei Jing also flop in semis

It was a bad day for Malaysian shuttlers in the semi-finals of the Macau Open at the Tap Seac Multipurpose Pavillion in Macau on Saturday.

None of the Malaysian pairs in the women’s doubles and the mixed doubles made Sunday’s finals with second seeds Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei the biggest disappointment.

They muffed a golden chance to win their first Open title when Vivian Hoo-Khe Wei could not keep their momentum after winning the first set 21-13 but lost the next two 21-19, 21-10 to Indonesia’s Anggia Shitta Awanda-Mahadewi Istirani Ni Ketut.

China’s Chen Qingchen-Jia Yifan handed Malaysia a double blow in the women’s doubles when the top seeds ripped through Lee Meng Yean-Chow Mei Kuan 21-15, 21-9 in only 34 minutes for a place in the final.

In the mixed doubles third seeds Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing went down to a Hong Kong pair they had beaten before to win the Thailand Open Grand Prix gold in Bangkok two months ago.

But in Macau it was Hong Kong’s Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet, seeded seventh, who turned the tables on the Malaysians with a 21-15, 30-28 win in 52 minutes.

Meanwhile, the men’s singles final will see top seed Chou Tien-chen of Taiwan taje on China’s unseeded Zhao Jun Peng for the title. Chou-tien knocked out another China player Huang Yuxiang 21-13, 21-19 while Jun Peng overcame another Taiwanese Wang Tzu-wei in three sets 17-21, 21-12, 21-11.

China’s junior world champion Chen Yufei will face compatriot Chen Xiaoxin for the women’s singles title. Xiaoxin beat Hong Kong’s Cheung Ngan Yi 21-11, 21-17 while Yufei outplayed compatriot Zhang Yiman 21-16, 21-12.
