Brisbane Roar skipper Matt McKay says Saturday’s win over Central Coast illustrates the strong mentality of a team he believes can finish inside the top six.

Four days on from their forgettable AFC Champions League display against Ceres-Negros, Roar prevailed 2-1 in Gosford to seal back-to-back Hyundai A-League victories for the first time this term.

McKay and Brett Holman were both on target to enhance their side’s Finals Series prospects.

“It shows the character of the team,” McKay told Fox Sports.

“People are going to write us off but we’ve spoken about it, we’ve had two grand finals the last couple of weeks and we move on with nine to go.

“We want to make finals. There’s no point giving up.

“We’ve got a lot of winners in our team, a lot of experience, but we’ve been able to deal with what was a horrible night [against Ceres-Negros].”

Brisbane boss John Aloisi joined McKay in praising the “positive reaction” and is eager for the form to continue.

“We said last week was our first final and this was our second,” the Roar coach added at his post-match press conference.

“We’ve won both of them and we have to keep picking up points and picking up wins.” – www.a-league.com.au
