The grand finale of Test of Will 2017, the ultimate urban fitness challenge organised by U.S. high performance sportswear label Under Armour, concluded last weekend, with male winner Michael Mogard of Brunei and female winner Jemima Djatmiko of Indonesia snagging the championship title, walking away with a total of MYR8,000 each in cash prize.

Held at Berjaya Times Square in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the grand final had 12 national representatives across six nations competing for the title of Champions of Test of Will 2017. These contestants emerged from a pool of close to 2,000 participants for the opportunity to represent their country to compete in a series of training challenges that emphasize on power, strength, agility, endurance and stamina.

The excitement of the Test of Will 2017 is enhanced by dance performance by Suhaili Micheline and jazz performance by Atilia Haron. The event gathered fitness enthusiasts across the region including Under Armour Brand Ambassadors from Brunei and Thailand.

The actual fitness challenges include 8 rounds of will testing challenges from Vertical Leap, Bodyweight Bench Press, Burpess Over Box, Airdyno Bike, Battle Rope Double Slams, Over Hurdies, Military Tire Drill, Ladder Drill on Hands, Suicide Sprint, Slam Ball Over Shoulder, Strick Pull-up, Metric Mile, Car Pull, Goblet Squats, Kettle Ball Swings, and Sand Bag Lunge Walk.

“Members of our gym back in Brunei kept me going when I faced tough challenges,” said Michael Mogard, fitness coach. “My workout routine for the Test of Will is more intense and specific. These are one of my hardest days of working out I ever had. When other people are at home watching television, I’m hitting the gym at night. Family is still my priority and I spend a lot of time in between my family and gym. I’m also getting more healthy fats and less sugar as part of my diet programme.”

“I have been training on strong men’s workout for the past two months and was quite surprised about the functional challenges that turns out to be what I’ve been preparing for,” said Jemima Djatmiko, fitness coach, athlete and business owner.

“I was nervous when I found out that I was ranked four during the first half of the test so I thought I should push myself and give it all when it comes to the second half of the test. I felt relieved and happy after finishing the challenges. I plan to spend the cash prize with my family and to use majority of the cash prize to obtain a weight lifting and gymnastic certificate in the United States. One of my passion is not just to be an athlete, I would like to learn more, be a coach or a mentor to other people who want to be fit and healthy.”

Mr. Michael Binger, CEO of Triple Pte Ltd, exclusive distributor of Under Armour in Southeast Asia added, “We were audience to a group of determined individuals who placed the human strength and willpower to test by overcoming all barriers and displaying exemplary sportsmanship by cheering on one another despite the fierce competition. This is what Under Armour is all about – we train hard, we break barriers, we will.”

Official sponsors for the event include Subaru, Sanctband, Again Faster, Yogood, Optimum Nutrition, Streamcast, Celebrity Fitness, Lab Series, and Royal Brunei Airlines.
