# Indonesia no match for Koreans in 3-0 defeat

By Rizal Abdullah

Fifth seeds India pulled off a stunning 3-1 win over Thailand, seeded 3/4, in the Uber Cup quarter-finals in Kunshan, China on Thursday while South Korea outplayed Indonesia 3-0.

The win by the Indians did not come as a surprise as they had given second seeds Japan a run for their money in their 3-2 defeat in their final Group D match which decided the top two placings.

India’s top woman shuttler Saina Nehwal suffered a 21-12, 21-19 defeat to former world champion Ratchanok Intanon, ranked No 2, in the first singles but it was Thailand’s only win in the tie.

P.V.Sindhu, ranked No 10 in the world leveled the score at 1-1 when she beat Busanan Ongbumrungphan in straight sets 21-18, 21-7 in the second singles and Rio Olympics bound Jwala Gutta-Ashwini Ponnappa carved out a 21-19, 21-12 win over Puttita Supajirakul-Sapsiree Taerattanachai in the first doubles.

Young Ruthvika Shivani Gadde turned in a sterling performance in the third singles and sent her experienced opponent Nitchaon Jindapol packing 21-18, 21-16 in 41 minutes for an unassailable 3-1 lead,

It was a stroll for the Koreans against Indonesia and sealed a place in the last four by winning the first and second singles and the first doubles.

Sung Ji-hyun won the first singles against Maria Febe Kusumastuti 21-13, 21-12 in 44 minutes before Jung Kyung-eun-Shin Seung-chan made it 2-0 in the first doubles with a 21-13, 21-19 win over Anggia Shitta Awand-Greysia Polii,
