After an action-packed second event in early November, the third and final event in the 2015 AsiaCup Series is set for a return to the Sepang International Circuit this December for a bumper race weekend finale.
In addition to an exciting line-up of young talents set for the final push, the event will also be expanded to a four-day race programme with the action set to commence from Thursday, 10 December.
In addition to the return of Australian wunderkid and championship leader Jordan Love (#79) who stormed to five consecutive race wins at the last event, the Malaysian rookie trio of Adam Haikal (#77), Adam Khalid (#5) and Nazim Azman (#17) are also poised for strong return.
With the trio already locking out second, third and fourth positions respectively in the standings, all three drivers proved to be worthy contenders following their solid podium performances with six podium finishes between them.
Bolstered by his maiden junior formula racing pole position and a double podium finish from the last event, Adam Khalid notes, āI am quite confident coming back to Sepang for the final event of the 2015 AsiaCup Series. There were definitely areas of improvement in my performance that has allowed me to catch and match Jordan (Love). I have definitely picked up the pace and am confident that I can make even more improvements coming into the final event.ā
Meanwhile, after his double podium finish at the November event, compatriot Adam Haikal is hopeful of consolidating the runners-up position in the championship. āAlthough there were a couple of challenging moments for me, I am really happy with the results from the last event with significant improvements both in my pace and race craft. I will be looking to be even more competitive at the final event and will be pushing all the way!ā notes Adam Haikal.
Currently fourth in the standings is youngster Nazim Azman, who also had a strong outing at the second event with two podium finishes of his own. He adds, āTaking everything that I have learnt from the past two events, I am hopeful of being able to go a step further this coming weekend. The field is super competitive but I am feeling confident.ā
Peter Thompson, CEO & Founder notes: āThe 2015 season of the AsiaCup Series has certainly been extremely exciting having already had two great events in August and last November. Jordan Love (AUS #79) has been on stunning form with a near perfect record. Additionally, the Malaysian contingent with Adam Haikal, Adam Khalid and Nazim Azman continues to make stellar progress over the past two events, evidenced by their current standings locking out second, third and fourth places in the championship. All three had an amazing outing at the second event, especially Adam Khalid who stormed to his maiden pole position. On that note, the third and final installment of the AsiaCup Series promises to be a wonderful final event with the trio set to go a step further. It would be good if they can end the season with a win, especially ahead of the much anticipated and brand new Formula 4 South East Asia Championship set to replace the series from 2016.ā
Featuring an intense four-day schedule that includes six races to be held over the weekend, the proceedings for the third and final event in the 2015 AsiaCup Series will commence on Thursday with practice and qualifyingĀ sessions followed by the first of six scheduled races.
After three successful seasons, the final AsiaCup Series event, which is being held as part of the 12Hours of Sepang, will also bring the series to a fitting end, ahead of the recently announced FIA-sanctioned Formula 4 South East Asia Championship, which will replace the series from 2016.
