There was plenty to cheer for the home fans when Pahang’s Wan Ermah Shafri Wan Ezremy Shaqir kept the state flag flying in the Boys’ Under-14 singles in the 100PLUS National Junior Circuit Zone A in Kuantan on Wednesday.

Wan Ermah toppled top seed Ernest Lee Zi Yang of Perak in straight games 21-12, 21-8 in the second round in 25 minutes to book his place in the quarter-finals. He will meet Sabah’s Elvestly Daniel Edry in the last eight.
And Sabah stole the show with Elvestly leading five other Sabahans – James Carlester Cleve, Amirul Mohd Taufiq, Andrew Aguwell and second seed Azhawari Hanz Haiqal – into the quarter-finals.

With Azahawari facing Andrew and James facing Amirul in all-Sabah quarter-finals the East Malaysians are assured of two semi-final slots. It could be three for Sabah if Elvestly can stop Wan Ermah in his quarter-final tie.

The other quarter-final is between Edward Cheong Yan Kai of Perak and Penang’s Lee Jian.

Sabah also enjoyed a good run in the Girls’ Under-16 with top seed Samin Arena Satu making the the quarter-finals together with Wong Bin Jie and Yap Velerry.

Pahang’s hopes in this category rests on Tan Jet Sin who downed Penang’s Tan Xian Zon 21-15, 21-9.

Perak’s Vibiana Vincent Ravindran pulled off an upset when she packed off second seeded Tan Zhing Yi of Penang to reach the quarter-finals where she will meet Yap Velerry.

In the Boys’ Under-16 Samin Demond Anthony and Mozes Mohd Hamizan of Sabah reached the quarter-finals to stay in the hunt.
