New signing Pedro Rodriguez was drafted straight into Chelsea’s starting XI by manager Jose Mourinho for their Premier League game at West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

The Spanish forward, 28, signed for the defending champions on Thursday in a deal reportedly worth £21.2 million ($33.2 million, 30 million euros), having previously appeared close to joining Manchester United.

He took over from Ramires at The Hawthorns, while Gary Cahill made way for Kurt Zouma and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois returned from suspension as Mourinho’s side went in search of their first win of the season.

Meanwhile, Saido Berahino was left out of West Brom’s squad after the club revealed earlier this week that they had rejected a bid for him, reported to be around £18 million, from Tottenham Hotspur. – Agence France-Presse
