Johor’s Yap Yee celebrated a grand double in the 100PLUS National Junior Circuit Zone B held at the Gan Hong Hoe Badminton Hall in Malacca as Johor and Kuala Lumpur shared five titles each while hosts Malacca won two with Putrajaya, Pahang, Negri Sembilan and Terengganu winning one each.
The Johor lass, seeded No 1 in the Girls’ Under-18 singles, proved too strong for second Too Shen Yee of Kuala Lumpur and walked away with a 21-13, 21-14 win in the final to take the title in 30 minutes.
She later teamed up with Wong Kelly in the Girls’ Under-18 doubles final and pulled off a stunning 21-14 21-14 over top seeds and favourites Loh Bao Ying-Nur Johanna Adryana Saha of Kuala Lumpur in another 30 minute battle.
Johor also showed their might in the Boys’ Under-18 singles final with Nur Izuddin Romsani battling for 55 minutes before subduing his compatriot and doubles partner Lew Ming Hui 22-20, 14-21, 22-20 in closely fought match.
However, any hopes of a double for Nur Izuddin were dashed when he and Ming Hui went down to top seeds Chen Jia Huo-Chen Tang Jie of Negri Sembilan in three sets. The Negri pair came back from a set down to win 20-22, 21-14, 22-20 in 45 minutes.
Johor also won the Boys’ Under-14 singles title through Low Yi Sheng who stopped Malacca’s Vishnu Er Yan Chen 21-11, 21-15 in the final.
Kuala Lumpur were supreme in the Girls’ Under-16 category and won both the singles and doubles titles. In the singles final unseeded Tang Wen Xin upset second seed Hamisya Hashuddin of Malacca with a 23-21, 21-17 win.
Wen Xin completed a double when she and Wong Kha Yan defeated Hamisya and Nur Arissa Bahrin 21-14, 23-21 in the doubles final.
