Johor Darul Takzim tightened their grip for their fifth successive Super League title with a 2-0 win over bottom-placed Negri Sembilan on Wednesday.

The Southern Tigers prevailed on the wet and slippery conditions at the Larkin Stadium in Johor Bahru – scoring a goal in each half for full points to remain on top with 28 points from 11 matches.

JDT have to thank their Argentine hit-man Gonzalo Cabrera for the win. Cabrera scored a brace with his first coming after 32 minutes of play with an assist from Nazmi Faiz Mansor.

Cabrera got the better of Negri goalkeeper Ilham Amirullah again on 75 minutes after he was set up by substitute Safawi Rasid.

At the Hang Jebat Stadium, it was a 1-1 draw between Melaka United and PKNS FC. For the record, it was Melaka’s second straight draw under new head coach E. Elavarasan, a former PKNS coach.

In his first match, Melaka held Perak to a scoreless draw in Ipoh. The stalemate against a formidable side like PKNS means there are a lot of positives for the team and Elavarasan hopes that the team will soon start winning.

JDT lead the table standings with Perak second on 20 points. Four teams – Kedah, Pahang, Terengganu and PKNS – are bunched on 18 points – separated by goal difference.
