New social media initiative set to boost interactionĀ with Singaporeā€™s running community

Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SCMS) 2015Ā today announced the worldā€™s first digital queue for a mass participation sporting event,Ā allowing participants to get ahead in the SCMS registration using social media.

The moreĀ retweets, comments and likes users get with SCMS-related content, the closer they willĀ get to the front of the digital queue. Winners stand to win free registration slots and evenĀ highly coveted front row positions at the event Start Line on 6 December 2015.

Launching 1st July, interested runners can join the digital race by sharing content andĀ posts from the official SCMS pages on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram ā€“ using theĀ hashtags #SCMS2015 and #DIGITALQUEUE.

Participants will have 8 days to respondĀ to the SCMS organiserā€™s daily challenges, which require them to share their favouriteĀ SCMS memories, post their own running throwback, and submit creative picture captionsĀ ā€“ to name just a few.

Participants move ahead in the digital queue by posting on socialĀ media about SCMS, and generating the most interest with their retweets, comments andĀ likes.

The top 100 ranked participants in the digital queue will get to register for their chosenĀ SCMS category for free, while the top 10 entries for the full marathon will be able to rubĀ shoulders with elite runners at the highly-coveted front pen at the Start Line.

In theĀ eventā€™s 13-year history, this is an exclusive privilege which will be made available to non eliteĀ runners for the first time.

As the nationā€™s marquee sporting event, SCMS also marks Singaporeā€™s Jubilee year byĀ getting participants and supporters to come together under the banner of ā€œThis year, weĀ race as oneā€.

Besides the digital queue, aspiring runners can also join the SCMS launch event on 9Ā July at Plaza Singapura to clinch a commemorative Golden Bib.

Exclusively available toĀ the first 200 registrants, the Golden Bib offers 50% discount off SCMS registration fee
across all categories for the IAAF Gold Label Road Race in December.Ā

With social media and mobile apps already an integral part of the distance runningĀ experience, the digital queue initiative is designed to ensure that Singaporeā€™s largestĀ mass participation event of the year continues to move with the times, as Chris Robb,Ā CEO of Spectrum Worldwide, SCMS 2015 event organiser explained:Ā ā€œWith the ever-growing reach of digital media into our lives, we want to ensure thatĀ Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore utilises technology in both a fun and usefulĀ way for todayā€™s running community.

The digital queue is certainly a first for SingaporeĀ and a great way to share content with friends and fellow runners, as well as to secure aĀ starting number for Asiaā€™s marquee road running event. Iā€™m sure Singaporeā€™s runningĀ community will embrace the concept, which is just one of many exciting new initiativesĀ planned for SCMS 2015.ā€
