Afif hoping a good result in Jempol

AHMAD AFIF AMRAN READY TO SWING BACK INTO ACTION

Team PETRONAS Yamaha-CKJ’s Ahmad Afif Amran is raring to get back on the saddle. The 20-year-old rider from Kemaman, Terengganu was conspicuously absent during eighth leg of the 2015 PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship. As the date for Round 9 nears, scheduled to be held in Jempol on October 31 and November 1, Afif describes himself as eager to get back into the game.

“I crashed out at the Losail International Circuit recently, during Round 5 of the 2015 Asia Road Racing Championship. The high side happened during Race 2 of the SuperSports 600cc class. The result was a broken collarbone,” Afif explained.

“Upon my return, the team sent me to the hospital for immediate treatment and I was confident that I would recover in time for Round 8 at MAEPS. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the medical clearance. Sitting out of the race was definitely more painful than the injury itself,” quipped Afif.

Currently 7th overall on the CP130 standings, Afif has netted a total of 58 points to date. He still stands within mathematical reach of the title, although with five other riders ahead of him on the points chart, Afif’s chances are admittedly slim.

“As a team, we suffered a slow start to the season this year. In order to make up for that initial shortfall, it was so important for us to haul in the big points during the second half of the competition. Being forced to sit out of Round 8 has definitely hurt my chances to at least finishing within the top three this year,” said Afif who ranked third overall in 2014.

Ironically, Afif’s biggest obstacles on the championship ladder, are his own PETRONAS Yamaha-CKJ team mates. Mohd Affendi Rosli is presently fourth overall with 64 points while Mohd Fitri Ashraf Razali is sixth with 59 points.

“The team has issued no orders, so the riders are free to compete amongst themselves. For the final two rounds, it will be every man for himself,” Afif concluded.
