A late strike from striker Nguyen Cong Phuong puts Vietnam in the quarter-finals of the Asian Games 2018 when they beat Bahrain 1-0 in the match that was played at the Patriot Chandrabhaga Stadium last night.

Bahrain was playing for much of the game with ten men following the dismissal of Ahmed Sanad in the 42nd minute for a foul on Duy Do Manh Do.

And while Bahrain defended long and hard against a Vietnam onslaught, they finally conceded the goal two minutes to the end when Cong Phuong finished off the weak clearance from Hamad Alshamsan.

With the win, Vietnam will now take on Syria, who beat Palestine 1-0 in an earlier match.

The game will be on 27 August 2018.
