Australia will take on Indonesia in the quarter-finals of the AFC Under-16 Championship on Monday as the two surviving teams from ASEAN aspire to win a place in the FIFA U17 World Cup in Peru next year.

ASEAN’s three other representatives hosts Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam failed to confirm their passage to the next round.

Both Malaysia and Thailand could not get the better of Japan and Tajikistan in Group A where they finished third and fourth respectively while Vietnam finished at the bottom of Group C.

Australia bounced back from their first loss in Group D to beat Iraq 2-1 and then blasting Afghanistan 4-0 to take the runners up spot.

For the quarter-finals, the young Australians will take on Indonesia, who won Group C despite drawing their matches against India and Vietnam.

The Indonesians won the group based on goal difference following their 2-0 win over Iran in the opening game.
