Defending champions SMK Mutiara Impian of Penang made it an awesome week in the Super League of the Minister of Education Under-14 League Cup when they underlined their title defence with a clear 3-0 whitewashing of former champions SMK Tunku Anum of Kedah.

Playing at home at the SMK Mutiara Impian Mini Stadium gave the home team all the confidence they needed to prise open the Kedah goal early in the fourth minute when Muhammad Asyraaf Izal found the back of the net in the fourth minute.

Three minutes later, Muhammad Fitri Adha Hassan doubled the advantage for SMK Mutiara Impian as Muhd Ameer Sedadi then finished things off in the 31st minute.

“The players took their chances well and this is what we needed. We have taken some lessons from last season and we are even better prepared this time round,” said SMK Mutiara Impian coach Mohd Rakhi Mat Saad.

“A win against SMK Tunku Anum is always satisfying, regardless of the score line.”

While SMK Mutiara Impian was basking in glory as they moved up to the top of the standings for the first time this season, it was pure agony for SMK Tunku Anum as they were not only humiliated by their neighbours, the loss has also plummeted them down to the bottom of the standings.

Conceding their third loss in five matches meant that the three-time champions have only picked up a paltry four points.

“It is a cause for concern as I really did not expect us to lose by such a margin,” said SMK Tunku Anum coach Basirul Abu Bakar.

“It has always been very close between the two teams but this time round, we did not play well at all in the first half. We recovered in the second half but by then, it was already a little late.”

With second-placed SMK Seri Kota of Melaka having the day off, SMK Tun Hussein Onn of Johor improved to third at the table when they edged SMK Tabuan Jaya of Sarawak off a lone goal from Sharul Idzwan Saparudin in the 33rd minute.

In the only other Super League match of the weekend, the Under-13 team of the Gambang Sports School were disappointingly held to a 2-2 draw at home by SMK Seri Titiwangsa of Kuala Lumpur.

The younger Gambang boys scored through Mohamad Khussaini Adli Mohd Yusof  in the 44th minute and Muhammad Aiman Syakir Mohd Zulkifli in the 50th minute as SMK Seri Titiwangsa replied through Anthony Nalong Nanang (36th minute) and Amirul Fazly Mohd Zamri (53rd).

In the Premier League, SMK Bukit Nenas of Terengganu strengthened their position at the top of the standings with a close 2-1 win on the road over the Under-13 team of SMK Tunku Mahkota Ismail.

Following the stalemate in the first half, it was SKM Tunku Mahkota Ismail who grabbed the lead through Danish Iman Mohd Kamarulzaman  in the 54th minute before SMK Bukit Nenas replied with a four-minute blitz from Muhammad Hairiey Hakim Mamat (65th minute) and Muhammad Isa Raman (69th).

In the other matches, SMK Putera of Kelantan were held to a scoreless draw by SMK Seksyen 11 of Selangor while SMK Seberang Temerloh of Pahang beat Sabah’s SMK Datuk Peter Mojuntin 3-2.
