Police ousted Kelantan on away goals to reach their first ever Malaysia Cup semi-finals despite a 1-0 defeat in the return-leg quarter-finals at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Malacca on Saturday.

The defeat tied the score 2-2 on aggregate but Police advanced on away goals after their 2-1 win over the Red Warriors in the first-leg in Kota Bahru. Kelantan skipper Badhri Radzi scored Kelantan’s winner in the 37th minute which was not enough for his team.

Police will now face last year’s runners-up Kedah in the two-leg semi-finals. Kedah thrashed Premier League’s Negri Sembilan 5-0 in the return-leg to advance. The first-leg at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi ended in a scoreless draw.

The draw in Paroi gave Negri false hopes as the Red Eagles made mince meat of their opponents at the Darul Aman Stadium – riding on their foreign firepower as former New Zealand World Cupper Shane Smeltz and former Felda United player Thiago Augusto fired a brace each.

Smeltz struck in the 24th and 31st minutes before Brazilian Augusto took over the scoring with goals in the 38th and 50th minutes. Kosovo midfielder Liridon Krasniqi made it a memorable night for the Red Eagles with the fifth goal on 85 minutes to complete the rout.

Defending champions Selangor scored through Nazmi Faiz Mansor in the 55th minute for a 1-0 win over PKNS FC in the return-leg at the Shah Alam Stadium to advance to the last four on a 5-3 aggregate and keep a date with T-Team.

Uzbekistan striker Dilshod Sharofetdinov was the toast of the Titans at the Tun Abdul Razak Stadium in Jengka with a clinical header off a corner kick in the 78th minute – that beat Felda goalkeeper Farizal Harun.
